#ThrowbackThursday to a time when the Rose Festival was a beacon of hope and resilience during wartime. Instead of the usual parades, entertainers like Duke Ellington and Lana Turner took to the stage to raise money for Defense Bonds and Stamps. 💋 Lana even sold kisses and became an honorary member of the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 In a year when war production reshaped industries, with musical instrument production halted and materials redirected, Portland’s spirit remained unshaken. 💪🎶 By November, Vanport, a public housing project for Kaiser Shipyard workers, would be named and would play a significant role in the 1948 Rose Festival. A unique chapter in Rose Festival history! 🌷 #rosefestivalhistory #portlandhistory #rosefestivallegacy #portlandrosefestival
Throwing it back to the 1936 Rose Festival! 🌹 One of the standout moments was the stunning replica of an ancient royal Chinese coach, proudly entered by the Chinese Women's Club and the Chinese Benevolent Association in the Junior Parade.✨ Also, who could forget the first-ever international ski race on Mount Hood, held just before the groundbreaking Timberline recreation area was set to be built! ⛷️ #ThrowbackThursday #portlandrosefestival #portlandhistory

2025 Rose Court Princesses
Welcome Isa to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Isa, a senior at Franklin High School, is excited to bring her passion and leadership to this year’s Court, representing her school and community. "I love reading, listening to music, and thrift shopping. Through my love for thrifting, I became a vendor at the Portland Vintage Market, where I sell my old clothes and donate the proceeds to CityTeam, a homeless shelter where I regularly volunteer. I also love the outdoors and can be found hiking, backpacking, skiing, and recently snowboarding in the Pacific Northwest." Her favorite Rose Festival event is the Fred Meyer Junior Parade, a tradition close to her heart. "It has always been hosted near my mom’s house in North Portland, and I have fond memories of watching it as a kid. Now that I’m older, I experience the childhood wonder from a new perspective." Welcome, Isa!
Welcome Esther Lian to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Esther, a senior at St. Mary’s Academy, represents herself, her school, and her community on the Court. "I love to cook, craft, and dance, and I’m always taking photos of anything that makes me happy. I enjoy walking and chatting with friends and hanging out with youth groups. When I’m alone, I like to watch movies, play games with my sisters, or journal about my day." For Esther, the Grotto is a favorite spot in Portland. "It’s one of the most breathtaking places I’ve visited. It’s a place of spiritual healing and connection with nature. The view is spectacular, and the Church inside the Grotto is so beautiful." Welcome, Esther!
Welcome Jayden Rendon Ramirez to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Jayden, a Junior at David Douglas High School, is grateful and energized to join the court. Jayden volunteers every weekend at her church and enjoys morning runs at the local park. She enjoys exploring hiking trails around Portland and hip-hop dancing to keep herself active. “I also have a deep love for fashion, as it allows me to express who I am through the clothes I wear." When it comes to Portland, Jayden’s favorite place to visit is SW Downtown. "The bustling city vibe, diverse culture, and endless restaurants and shops make it an exciting place to explore. I love how vibrant and dynamic the area is!" Welcome Jayden!
Welcome Ivette Hernandez to the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 Ivette, a Senior at Parkrose High School, is ready to join the Court and focus on giving back. "In my spare time, I enjoy reading a good book and listening to music. Although I don’t get much free time, when I do, I like to play video games and solve puzzles. Most of my time, however, is spent managing my school’s wrestling team, leading the finance club, and being involved in other clubs. I also enjoy playing tennis and volunteering at school and community events." When it comes to Portland, Ivette's favorite spot is Rocky Butte Natural Area. "I love it here! The greenery, the knowledge, and the breathtaking view of the city make it a peaceful escape." Welcome, Ivette! 🌹
