Instead of the usual parades, entertainers like Duke Ellington and Lana Turner took to the stage to raise money for Defense Bonds and Stamps. 💋 Lana even sold kisses and became an honorary member of the Rose Festival Court! 🌹 In a year when war production reshaped industries, with musical instrument production halted and materials redirected, Portland’s spirit remained unshaken. 💪🎶 By November, Vanport, a public housing project for Kaiser Shipyard workers, would be named and would play a significant role in the 1948 Rose Festival.
